Interior Access
Chenonceau is probably the most famous chateau in the Loire valley. Built over the river Cher, the chateau is surrounded by water. The original chateau on this site was demolished by Thomas Bohier in the 16th century. The current forecourt reproduces the layout of the previous medieval chateau surrounded by moats. One of the original towers was kept as a free-standing tower.
Chenonceau est probablement le chateau le plus célèbre dans la vallée de Loire. Construit au-dessus du fleuve Cher, le chateau est entouré par l'eau. Le chateau original sur cet emplacement a été démoli par Thomas Bohier au 16ème siècle. Le forecourt courant reproduit la disposition du chateau médiéval précédent entourée par des fossés. Un des tours originales a été gardé comme tour libre.
The main external feature is the bridge over the river. This contains a long gallery and was built by Catherine de Medici in 1576. The chateau was used as a hospital during the first World War and during the second was a conduit for people escaping the occupied zone of France. One end of the gallery was in the occupied zone while the other end was in the Free Zone.
Le dispositif externe principal est le pont au-dessus du fleuve. Ceci contient une longue galerie et a été construit par Catherine de Medici en 1576. Le chateau a été employé comme hôpital pendant la première guerre mondiale et pendant la seconde avait lieu un conduit pour des personnes échappant à la zone occupée de la France. Une extrémité de la galerie était dans la zone occupée tandis que l'autre extrémité était dans la zone franche.
Externally the building is very elaborate with many decorative windows, chimneys and turrets. The chateau is surrounded by formal gardens. As expected, the interior is very ornate and contains many beautiful rooms.
Extérieurement le bâtiment est très raffiné avec beaucoup de fenêtres, cheminées et tourelles décoratives. Le chateau est entouré par les jardins formels. Comme prévu, l'intérieur est très fleuri et contient beaucoup de belles salles.
