The Wolf Prize for Arts this year will go to the French architect Jean Nouvel. The judges described his plans and buildings as extremely unusual, noting that for him, architecture is not a matter of accepted forms, but rather a meeting between what is desired and what exists. They said that Nouvel demonstrates the ability of architecture to test technological development in terms of space and matter.
